CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE: April 19, 2011

Very fittingly, we spend our first full day in California at Disney's theme park, California Adventure. While Julie first visited California Adventure with Josh during summer 2009, this is Spencer's first trip to the state of California. Julie has planned well for this day. We follow her schedule closely, making excellent progress through the rides, waiting in few lines.

While Julie pulls fast passes at Soarin' Over California, Spencer and Rhonda run to secure a place at Toy Story Mania. After Toy Story, we ride one of Spencer's favorites, the high-speed coaster California Screamin'. While Rhonda's stomach settles, Spencer and Julie ride California Screamin' a second time. We enjoy other Paradise Pier rides, then head for Soarin'. Tower of Terror, the favorite of both Julie and Spencer, welcomes us twice into its scream-filled elevators. Julie and Spencer also brave the Grizzly River Run, while Rhonda prefers to remain dry. Rhonda's favorite attraction at California Adventure is the Aladdin stage show. We also catch Bug's Life, Mike and Sully to the Rescue, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, Boudin Bakery Tour, etc.

Between ice cream treats and cinnamon rolls, we eat a fried chicken box lunch at Wine Country Trattoria, then a Mexican dinner at Cocina Cucamonga's outdoor patio. The purchase of the picnic lunch entitles us to preferred seating at California Adventure's nighttime extravaganza, World of Color. We enjoy the show's colorful, synchronized fountains from a front-and-center perch along the pier's wrought-iron fencing. It is just breezy enough to blow the fountain mists in our direction. Gradually, we become soaked on this cool night. After a short stop at the gift shop, we head for hot showers at the Fairfield Inn. It has been a very fun day!
