September 24, 2009: Alex's 8th Birthday

Grandpa and Grandma Williams flew from Houston to Detroit the evening of September 23, 2009, arriving at 10:30 p.m. Julie met them at the airport and drove them to the Thrifty rental car lot, where they had a difficult time locating their assigned mini van. Thank goodness for a chauffeur to drive them around the dark lot! The van designated on their first contract was nowhere to be found, so they were assigned another vehicle. It was nearly midnight when Gary and Rhonda finally checked into the Spring Hill Suites near Detroit Metro Airport.

Grandpa and Grandma were in Michigan to celebrate Alex's 8th birthday and to attend his baptism and confirmation as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Grandma Dyal also flew to Michigan from Lubbock, Texas for Alex's birthday and baptism. Alex requested a Domino's pizza dinner (instead of the family's usual Little Caesar's fare), followed by a delicious ice cream cake for dessert. Then it was time to open a pile of great presents, many new toys. There was no question how Alex would spend the rest of the evening--playing with all his terrific toys!! Spencer and Jessica tried out Alex's new Wii Sports Resort game.
