Several weeks before spring break, we purchase tickets to a John Mayer concert at the WinStar Resort -- located just across the Texas border in Oklahoma. This concert is cancelled two days before we leave for Dallas. Instead, we attend the matinee performance of the musical "Million Dollar Quartet" at State Fair Music Hall. This play is based on an actual event, the impromptu jam session with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins at the Memphis recording studio of Sam Phillips -- Sun Records. This is a fun, very entertaining musical, filled with great music and lots of laughs!
Outside the music hall, we notice unusual activity in the parking lot of the Cotton Bowl. Upon investigation, we discover that tryouts for American Ninja Warrior are being held at the fairgrounds. We step gingerly over miles of bundled cord, around huge lights and speakers, to spectator stands to watch eager contestants attempt a VERY challenging course.
At the end of the day, we enjoy food and conversation (with a cute Aggie couple) around the grill at Benihana's.
