After touring beautiful Ghent, we travel 24 miles westward to an even more popular destination -- Bruges. According to Rick Steves, "Bruges is a heavyweight sightseeing destination, as well as a joy. It's a uniquely well-preserved Gothic city and a handy gateway to Europe. It's no secret, but even with the crowds, Bruges is the kind of place where you don't mind being a tourist."
The highlight of our time in Bruges is a canal boat tour of the ancient city. We also enjoy walking through backstreets and marketplaces. Each new twist and turn offers a postcard-perfect photo op. Throughout the afternoon we notice tourists eating waffles with a wide variety of tempting toppings. Shortly before we leave Bruges, we resist no longer. We order delicious Belgian waffles smothered in chocolate sauce and whipped cream!
