BERLIN - CULTURAL TREASURES BY TRAIN: June 17, 2011

From the rainy port of Warnemunde along the northern coast of Germany, we travel by train to warm and sunny Berlin. We happily leave our jackets on the bus during the tour.

There are many great highlights from this tour of Berlin's Cultural Treasures. First, we stop at a restored section of the infamous Berlin Wall, where artists have used much imagination in their decorative murals. Next we enter the Berlin Cathedral, the largest and most beautiful Protestant Church in Germany, to attend an organ concert. Following a delicious lunch at a lovely Prussian Palais, we visit the famous Pergamon Museum, with its vast collection of architectural treasures, including the Pergamon Altar and the Ishtar Gate of Babylon.

We enjoy extended photo stops at well-known sites throughout Berlin, including Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, and Charlottenburg Palace. This tour is one of Rhonda's recommended favorites, in spite of the travel time necessary to make this lengthy trip by train.
